Abstract:

Patients after severe brain injuries would be disorders of consciousness (DOC), but evidence-based guidelines on the treatment of DOC patients are not currently available. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been reported to be a promising technique for consciousness improvement for patients with DOC, becoming a new hotspot in the research field. This article reviews the current research status of tDCS in terms of therapeutic effect, stimulation parameters, stimulation targets and the arousal mechanism.
