Abstract:

Alzheimer disease and vascular dementia, known as the most common clinical types of dementia, have became one of the major disease that seriously threaten the physical and mental health and living quality of old people, because of the lack of effective treatment measures. Recent studies have shown that humanin has extensive nerve protective effect, such as lessening injury of PC12 cells caused by ischemia; besides restraining neuron damage caused by amyloid beta. Thus, humanin might bring hope to the development of specific new drugs for the prevention and control of dementia. In this paper, we review the advances in the research between humanin, Alzheimer disease and vascular dementia.

Key words: Humannin, Alzheimer disease, Vascular dementia, Neuroprotective effect
