Abstract:

Objective

To observe the early effect of hydrotherapy (HT) combined with baclofen in the treatment of moderate to severe muscle spasticity (MS) after spinal cord injury (SCI).

Methods

Ninety patients with moderate to severe MS after SCI were enrolled from January 2017 to December 2018 in the Department of Neurorehabilitation, Suzhou Ruisheng Rehabilitation Hospital. They were randomly divided into observation group, HT group and drug group, 30 cases in each group. The observation group, the HT group and the drug group were given HT combined with baclofen treatment, single HT and baclofen treatment, and the three groups were given conventional rehabilitation treatment. The MS of patient was assessed before and after treatment using an internationally modified Ashworth scale.

Results

After treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the HT group and the drug group. The Ashworth score was superior to the single drug group and the HT group. The amount of baclofen in the observation group was smaller than that in the drug group, and the side effects were less than the drug group.

Conclusion

The combination of HT and baclofen has a certain effect on the treatment of moderate to severe MS after SCI. It can improve the motor function of patients and improve their daily living ability, and can reduce the dosage of baclofen and reduce the side effects of drugs.
