Freezing of gait (FOG) is the most common abnormal gait in Parkinson’s disease (PD), which mostly occurs in the middle and late stage of the disease, leading to falling down and injury. The etiology of FOG is still unclear, and clinical evidences show that FOG is associated with anxiety, depression, cognitive impairment and other non-motor symptoms in PD patients. Rehabilitation therapy has some effect, to patients who respond poorly to drug treatments. Early recognition and intervention in FOG can reduce disability rate and improve prognosis. This article reviews the research progress of pathogenesis, evaluation methods, relationship with non-motor symptoms and treatment of FOG in PD.
